I am a national board certified school teacher with a Masters degree from Johns Hopkins in science education and a Bachelors degree from UNC-Chapel Hill in biology. I have taught the International Baccalaureate SL biology curriculum for the last 4 years in a public, city school setting.

I want science to make sense. A lot of times, science classes end up being memorization, and while there is certainly a lot of “stuff” to know for biology, I hope to make concepts and terms accessible by creating connections between concepts. I believe that deep learning happens when we question why certain phenomena happen and then dive deeper to understand why they happen; my teaching strategy tends to be phenomena-based storylines and student-initiated inquiry lessons.
