About Jamie

Learning is hard, but once something clicks, there's no better feeling. Teaching is a big part of that. I've often found that I might love a subject, but if my professor doesn't deliver the information well, or if the class isn't engaging, I tend to struggle with the material. Part of the reason I'm so passionate about tutoring is that I can help with this. In many classes, it's nearly impossible for a teacher to cater to each student's individual learning needs. As a personal/private tutor, we can work together to find a teaching and learning style that fits you. On top of that, I try to make things fun. Some levity, especially with a tricky topic, goes a long way!

About the lesson

Lesson times are flexible and catered to your needs, but I would recommend at least an hour for new or unfamiliar topics. My style of teaching is rather hands-on when explaining new concepts, before letting you try on your own. If anything needs to be cleared up, I'm more than happy to assist. There's no such thing as too many examples or explanations, the goal of the sessions is to make sure you understand what you came to me for. I also know that concepts take time to sink in, and we can take breaks at any point or come back to a topic at a later session! I used to work for a tutoring company, where I had up to three students at once, and was part of my school's writing centre, where I helped students improve their academic essays. Additionally, I was part of an outreach programme for my high school, where I would engage younger students in creative writing.
