About Lethabo

I am 23 years old and I am an athlete. I have been playing soccer since I was 8 years old. I have played for numerous academies in South Africa such as Tuks and UJ. In 2018 I had an opportunity to continue playing soccer while studying in the USA. I grabbed that opportunity with both hands. I spent two years at a junior college where I completed my Associate of Arts degree while majoring in English before transferring to another University to complete my Bachelor of Arts while majoring in English Literature. During that time I had the privilege of being invited to Spain for trials, which was another once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that I could not let pass me by. I put my schooling career on hold and lived and played in Spain for a year(2021). I returned to the States at the beginning of this year(2022) and did some odd jobs while studying part time. I am back in South Africa to visit my family, whom I haven’t seen in 3 years, as well as to try and raise some funds for myself to be able to head back and complete my degree and continue schooling :)

About the lesson

My interest in English stems from music. I LOVE MUSIC. The way artists are able to use words to manipulate so many of our emotions at one go fascinates me. That is always my starting point whenever I am about to start writing. I think about the emotion I am trying to evoke from the reader. This is also my approach to teaching. What are you trying to get your audience to feel? How do you yourself resonate with the English language? I believe the writer should be very attached and in-touch with his/her work and himself/herself.

I am looking to teach mostly Essay writing and Creative writing from 7th grade upwards. I think that the sooner a child is introduced to that form writing the better because as they progress in their schooling careers, essays become not only more common but a necessity. Being able to writing convincingly also improves your analytical ability and those are traits that are useful even outside of academics.

A typical lesson with me would include getting to know the student as much as possible and finding ways to make the work appeal to their personal interests in order for them to be as creative as possible :)
