About Jeffrey
Hello! I believe that there are four important aspects of the teacher/student dynamic. First and foremost is empathy. A student must feel that their facilitator understands the students struggles, and their style of learning. the seconds is passion. I have always led my classes with a high level of enthusiasm. I carry this enthusiasm into all aspects of my life, whether performing comedy, doing theatre, or fostering and saving dogs! The third is the ability to patiently listen. Even when teaching basic writing skills, I find the Socratic method useful. Probing questions serve to encourage students to make better choices in their style, and use of diction. I have been extremely successful using this method in helping students write more maturely and effectively. The fourth is having fun! If you don't get at least a laugh or two out of the sessions, I'm not doing my job!

My goal is to empower students! My background in the performing arts will also help you build confidence in your ability to communicate. I'm amazed me how many students never learned to use mnemonics and other memory devices to help them get the most of their study time. My lessons will help both High School and College students to comprehend difficult material and categorize it to achieve better retention. A simple example:
In a communication textbook, I read that there were three major barriers to effective listening. They were dismissing the subject or speaker, reactive or emotional listening, and of course faking or pretending. Taking one letter from each, one can create an acronym- FRED ~faking, reacting emotionally, and dismissing. I am a personable, high energy teacher, and I have a really cute dog! Let's do this!
