About David
I'm David. I'm currently on gap year before going to university to study engineering. I've always liked maths, it seemed to come as second nature to me from an early age, but I never really understood why. I was being given the same work as my peers, spending the same time on, doing the same homework, yet I never struggled anywhere near as much as my classmates. It was only when I reached secondary school and my friends began to turn to me for help in the lead up to exams that I figured it out. My friends had a severely limiting lack of understanding of the work they were doing. All of these little (and often easily fixable) gaps in their knowledge piled up to the point where they were almost failing. But the thing is, once these gaps were diagnosed and filled, everything clicked. That a-ha moment is one of the things I love most about maths, and I want to share that through tutoring.

Throughout my schooling I often found that all subjects, not just maths, were taught with the goal of simply reproducing information under exam conditions rather than genuinely understanding the course material. It was only when I started to look deeper, question why things work the way they do rather than just accept them as they are given did I start to notice improvements in my grades. Accessing those top marks becomes far easier with a seriously concrete grasp of the most fundamental parts of the course and a strong mathematical intuition, which is what I plan to prioritise building in my teaching.
A typical lesson would run for one hour, but I am open to change if requested.
I have sat every level of maths that the SQA has to offer, and gotten an A every time. On top of that I was awarded the Advanced Higher Maths prize by my school.
This year I tutored one student who was struggling with Higher Maths. Over the course of a few months I helped them improve their final grade by 40% from their prelim mark. I'm now looking to build on that experience by tutoring more students.
My lessons are for students sitting National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher Maths.
