About Millicent
I am VERY young at heart, soul, and body. I still sit cross-legged on the mat with my learners, demonstrate physical movement, and enjoy every minute of life and teaching.
Turning 65 in July 2022, I, unfortunately, cannot work for the WCED any longer. I can however work for a SGB which I'd seriously like to do. Teaching is my passion, and I would love to share and use my experience for a few years more.
I am a very experienced educator in many fields, e.g. CAPS curriculum, Jolly Phonics, remedial teaching, learners with learning barriers, also learners on the autism spectrum, epilepsy, attention deficit disorders, etc. I gained this knowledge while teaching at Jan Kriel School for 9 years.
I was a lecturer for Early Childhood Development at Boland College in Stellenbosch, thus knowing the preschool and Gr R curriculum by heart.
I also taught Grade R (Eng and Afr) at Jan Kriel School.
My co-curricular activities include music in all its forms, accompanist, mini ball games, mini tennis, and mini cricket. I also love the arts and carry it over via art lessons, music, recitation for Eisteddfod, etc.
I like my surroundings and classroom to be extremely neat and fresh, print-rich, and learner friendly.
During my teaching career, I also had the privilege to be HOD and acting principal of a preparatory school and an independent Methodist School in Franschoek.

I am a very hard worker, an old-school teacher, reliable, honest and I thrive on challenges. I have 43 years of teaching experience of which 9 years were devoted to learners with special needs. I was VERY fortunate to gain excellent experience in teaching these children. My profession is my passion. All learners are unique and I believe they need to be educated holistically for them to develop to the best of their abilities.
Learners need attention, care, and empathy, but above all, love. All of these are part of my characteristics; therefore, I find it easy to give them the special treatment they need.
I have had many successes with learners that “could not be reached” in mainstream schooling. These learners now interact appropriately with other learners and take part in activities and have become well-developed adults. I have seen learners under my care and tuition developing self-worth and confidence that astounded their parents. I interact very closely with the families/parents of all learners. I bond with them, advise them and very importantly, get them to participate, support, and take an interest in their child’s development. Only a combined effort will ensure progress in the holistic development of the learner.
I am a very creative person and like to decorate my classroom and teaching aids in such a way that it is attractive to the learners and I pay special attention to making it child-friendly.
My classroom is my pride and joy. I like my surroundings to be attractive, eye-pleasing, organized, clean, and neat. Also providing ample learning material.
I would appreciate the opportunity to use my knowledge, personal experience, and skills, to continue with the work that I enjoy, am good at, and that learners and schools can benefit from.
