• When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

  I started loving math in high school thanks to my incredible calculus teacher who took time to explain concepts in an approachable manner while cultivating a fun learning environment.

• Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

  Math and science are my specialties - I love helping students with math at any level from Algebra 1 to AP Calculus. I also love to help students with physics and applied sciences!

• Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

  My aforementioned math teacher, Mr. Hunter, was definitely a role model in the way he intentionally cared for his students and created material on their level.

• What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

  A good tutor knows their students and their needs. This means knowing their learning style, personality, attention span, and interests. This is paramount to creating a personalized learning plan for their students to see real results.

• Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

  I remember when it clicked for me - sitting in Dr. Brown's physics class in college. The worlds of algebra, calculus, and physics combined and I realized that not only did I have a strong foundation of understanding, but I had a desire to learn. I enjoyed it! That eureka moment propelled me to get my Master's degree in semiconductor physics. I still love it!

• What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

  Learning the vernacular that comes with advanced math definitely stood out as a difficulty for me when I was going through school. Math really is a language of its own!

• Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

  I am passionate about seeing students achieve the goals they set for themselves. I love the material I teach, but student success stories are what get me out of bed every day.
