Many English platforms use methods that are unnecessarily complex or not very applicable to real-life situations. My approach is different: I teach the language the way I learned it in school in the United States—starting with a solid foundation in phonetics and maintaining language authenticity. This clear and structured foundation allows students to confidently progress to more advanced concepts, achieving effective, precise, and natural communication in professional contexts.

  • 1) Do you speak this language fluently because of your origins or because a teacher inspired you to learn?

    1. I speak Spanish fluently because my parents only spoke to me in Spanish when I was growing up. Although I was born and raised in Michigan, USA where English is the primary language of the country, my parents wanted to give me the privilege of growing up bilingual. I’m so grateful!
  • 2) Can you name a living, historical or fictional character that you think is the emblematic representative of the language's culture?

    2. I think Maluma is the emblematic representative of the Spanish-language culture. The Spanish language has flavor and elegance and Spanish culture in general is characterized by its warmth and unique spice.
  • 3) Is there a typical word, phrase, tradition or behaviour in the language that you particularly like?

    3. My favorite word in Spanish is “preciosa.” It sounds so melodious and beautiful elegant and is a beautiful way to call a woman.
  • 4) Why does speaking this language matter to you?

    4. Speaking Spanish matters to me because it connects me with my Latin family roots and especially my Colombian heritage. I love being a colombo-American!
  • 5) What is the main difficulty in learning this language and what can help the process of learning?

    5. The main difficulty learning Spanish is the elision and speed of spoken native speech. As with learning any language, prolonged exposure to the language in an authentic setting (such as living in a Latino community or watching movies in Spanish) is an immense help.
  • 6) Provide a valuable anecdote related to your language learning or your days at school.

    6. Many people think that the right way of pronouncing the “e” in Spanish is “ay” as in “pray” but it’s actually said “eh” as in “let.”
  • 7) How has travel or a specific trip helped you to increase your skill and knowledge of the language?

    7. When I traveled to Colombia for the first time at age 12, to visit my grandparents in Medellin, I fell in love with the way people spoke Spanish in the region of the country. The Paisa accent is music to my ears! Luckily enough, I now live in Medellin, Colombia and hear Paisa Spanish every day!
  • 8) What makes you a Superprof in language?

    8. What makes me a Superprof in Spanish is that I’m passionate about the language and the culture. I’m always listening to new music and Spanish and watching new movies in Spanish and eating some chicharrón (porklings) whenever I have the chance!
