About Florence
My name is Flora and I've just completed my final year of an MA History degree at the University of St. Andrews.
I am enthusiastic about teaching and even wrote my dissertation on the schools of medieval Cairo!
My passion for history began when I realised that it was much more than just memorising dates and facts. It combines my interest in the past and love of telling stories to foster creativity and analytical rigour. Both English and History are exciting because there is no right answer. At university, I have most enjoyed that your learning experience can be anything you want it to be- my interests have ranged from Scottish princesses to modern Chinese politics.
It's also important to have an escape from the classroom- I have kayaked the length of the River Tay, and further afield, trekked Albania’s Accursed Mountains!

-I have three years experience tutoring ages 9-22. I am especially passionate about English and History.
-Professional qualifications such as the TEFL course, and informal volunteering experience teaching adults with additional needs, have enhanced my teaching skills.
-My online lessons (typically one hour) will be individually tailored to each student's goals and interests. Techniques such as mind-mapping, quizzes, and essay plans, will supplement exam papers and coursework assessment. This will provide the student with a variety of tools to tackle the exam day itself!
-It is important to measure progress with short, independent exercises which will be marked and reviewed together. It is great to have this discussion time to celebrate areas of improvement. In addition, I believe that progression can be measured in self-confidence. I aim to leave the student with resilient and satisfied, and most importantly, looking forward to their next lesson!
-Being a student is so rewarding. I would look to help my tutees reach their full potential whilst building study habits which extend beyond the classroom.
