About Jed
Not to toot my own horn, but I am a wizard at math. Like any good wizarding student, you need your Dumbledore. I'm your Dumbledore, and I'll be giving you the Elder Wand. That means not just teaching you the magic, but also totally demystifying it to the point that it isn't intimidating anymore, it just makes sense. We won't make simple things complicated, we'll make complicated things seem simple.
Math always came easy to me, but unlike other kids with such a gift, I always understood exactly why. I never memorized steps. I never put hours and hours into repetition of problems, and I wouldn't expect you to either. I just always put a bit of deliberate effort into understanding WHY. Why is a problem like this done the way it's done? Why does this shape or figure have these seemingly random properties that your teacher didn't explain? Why does this long wacky formula seemingly work like magic? And why the heck should you even care? 95+% of students, even the smart ones, simply don't have this type of understanding. When you do have it, it will make your life so much easier. The magic will be in your hands, and it won't even seem so magical anymore.
For some concrete credentials, I've studied Applied Mathematics at Wake Forest University, where I tutored other students in very complex subjects such as Calculus, Differential Equations, Linear Algebra, Statistics, and Physics. Additionally I have always tutored kids in middle school and high school as well in more foundational math subjects, like algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and pre-calculus. I've been tutoring since I was a 6th-grader, as I've always loved it and brought great enthusiasm. I can't wait to show you the magic!

My teaching method is based fully around building intuition and understanding, rather than ever engaging in frustrating, futile efforts to memorize steps and formulas. I am armed to the teeth with clever tricks and tips that will help make things CLICK, and give you those coveted eureka moments.
A typical lesson would always follow the same general formula: introduce the concept, build up general understanding and intuition, practice using that understanding on guided problems, and discuss. This applies to any and all levels of math, including statistics and physics, and can and should be used for students at all levels.
As a tutor and as a student myself, I always strive to think of math as a SPORT! Sports are fun, especially when we win! This sport is no exception. We'll learn to attack it with enthusiasm and confidence, and find that the feeling of wizardry earned from truly wrapping your mind around a challenging concept, is as rewarding and exciting as it gets!
