About Philippe
Hello, I am a UK-qualified, licensed architect with over 25 years of international experience in architectural design and project management, having worked in leading architectural design offices on major projects around the world. I also hold UK Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a PGCE in Design & Technology, and I have taught GCSE and A-Level Design & Technology in private schools in England, including AQA syllabus NEA portfolio work.
In addition, I bring 5 years of adjunct tutoring experience at NUS (National University of Singapore), where I taught professional practice in the Department of Architecture. My background combines industry expertise with formal teaching experience, allowing me to support students with both the creative and practical realities of Architecture and Design.
Unlike many tutors, my teaching covers not only design theory and conceptual design development, but also the wider real-world factors involved in turning ideas into physical reality. Whether the focus is buildings, products, portfolios, or professional practice, I tailor my teaching to each student’s individual needs. Where appropriate, I can also bring real-world design to life by sharing my own completed projects in Singapore and worldwide, together with project case studies, sketches, and design development journeys.
A native English speaker, I am also fluent in Japanese, having lived and worked in Japan for 13 years. This allows me to teach Japanese language to learners of all ages and abilities, as well as support bilingual students or Japanese-speaking families who may also need help with Architecture or Design & Technology / Product Design.
I take safeguarding and professionalism seriously, and I am DBS certified in England, with background clearance checks for both Singapore and Japan.

I offer premium, one-to-one online or face-to-face tutoring sessions that are carefully structured to meet each student's individual goals and learning style. Lessons are typically 60 to 90 minutes in duration, though I am happy to adjust this based on the student's needs and concentration levels.
How I Teach:
• Personalized Learning: Every student is different. I begin by assessing the student's current level, their specific challenges, and their ultimate goals. From there, I design a tailored program that builds confidence and delivers measurable progress.
• Structured Yet Flexible: I believe in a clear framework for each session—whether that involves introducing basic design principles, breaking down a complex architectural concept, reviewing portfolio work, or preparing for an exam or a dissertation. At the same time, I remain responsive to questions and areas where the student needs deeper support.
• Real-World Context: My lessons go beyond textbook theory. For Architecture and D&T students, I draw on my 25+ years of professional practice to explain how design principles are applied in the real world—from project management and client briefs, contracts to construction realities, procurement, professional ethics, cost, and liability; always tailoring complexity to the student’s level.
• Real Projects, Real Learning: As an architect with completed high-profile buildings in Singapore and worldwide, I offer something truly unique. For Singapore-based students, I can arrange site visits to my built projects, to walk through real spaces and explain design decisions in person. For online students, I can share case studies, sketches, construction photos, and design development journeys. This allows students to see how architectural ideas, design decisions, technical constraints, and practical realities come together in completed buildings—bringing Architecture and Design to life in a way no textbook can.
• Interactive & Engaging: Lessons are highly interactive, using screen sharing, visual aids, and collaborative problem-solving. I encourage students to ask questions, think critically, and develop their own design voice, and I can support students in developing their design communication skills, whether through freehand sketching or 3D CAD modeling.
