About Christopher
For some students at any level of education, math creates fear, anxiety, and frustration. With the increase in the complexity and rigorous nature of the current adopted mathematical standards, students are experiencing "blocks" to being successful now more than ever. In order for students to learn successful methods to navigate and even eliminate these barriers, it is critical that they begin receiving remediation and math instruction from licensed and quality math educators. I have the passion and professional drive to provide these services to students in need of support.

I have 27 years of experience as a middle school, high school, and college math teacher. I have taught remedial, grade-level, honors, gifted/talented, and advanced placement (AP) level math courses. I can guarantee that if a student is studying or learning a skill or topic that I have taught it! I also provide test-taking reviews for the ACT, SAT, ASVAB, and teacher licensure examinations. I have no requirements or specificities that must be met for providing math education, except to be open-minded to learning and being a good communicator. I have also served the students and faculty/staff of schools as a teacher leader and teacher mentor and am currently working as a Dean of Student Services. My career in education has proven that a great working relationship with students is the key to opening the door to teaching and learning and boosting their self-confidence in mastering academic content. To foster the idea, my lesson typically begins with a "check in" with the student by asking him/her about how their day has been, to name two or three ideas that he/she learned in their last math lesson and how they felt about the lesson, and then to describe in detail to me where he/she perceives the difficulty is within the material. To target the skill(s) that need additional support, I will have the student demonstrate his/her depth of knowledge through completing and explaining their work processes to scaffolded lesson items. I then use various methods to remediate the weak area(s) and provide additional notes and examples for the student to retain for reference. I also like to provide instruction for how the student will likely encounter the skill(s) on standardized assessments, such as the LEAP, benchmarks, and ACT. I strongly encourage and always welcome students to ask questions at any point in a lesson. I like to conclude with asking the student to describe to me in their own words what they have learned followed by my constructive feedback for successfully moving forward.
