I was self taught as I always assumed that teachers would just make me learn lame songs that I wasn't interested in (I was an angry 15 year old so just wanted to learn Slipknot riffs not ba ba black sheep or whatever) and have heard a lot about teachers not really understanding that what works for them doesn't work for everyone. The downside is it feels like it took me longer to learn than I would if I had a teacher. I aspire to be the opposite of the negative ideas I had about teachers but still help students learn
