About Xena
Hi there! I'm currently a third year student at UTAS studying fine arts. I grew up in Beijing, China so you know I speak perfect standard mandarin haha! I worked as an English-Chinese translator for a website called Discover Aust which promotes Tassie attractions to Chinese tourists. After that I became a sales assistant for a very busy cosmetics store in the city.
My partner is from Tassie and he is studying Chinese as his second language. I have been giving him lessons for about 2 years now so I'm quite familiar with the text books and lesson structure they use at uni.

I grew up in a Chinese household where no one knows how to speak English. After years of sitting through Chinglish classes I decided to learn English myself when I was 14. I understand how frustrating it is when you're learning a new language, but I can guarantee you it's worth it. My personal motto when it comes to teaching or learning a new language is to 'learn it like a baby'. I believe that fluency is only achieved through immersion and repetition, which is why I think it's important to learn from a native speaker.
