About Valentina
Hello, I am Valentina, a first year PhD student. I have a BSc in Biotechnology and an MScR in Regenerative Medicine from the University of Edinburgh, so long story short you could say I am a biology nerd!
During my time in higher education I have had the opportunity of learning about multiple areas of biology, spanning from plant science to zoology and molecular cell biology. After my 4 year undergraduate degree, where I was awarded a First Class Honours, I decided to venture into a masters by research. During the last couple years of my undergraduate degree I realised that I was mostly interested in the biomedical applications of biology, and therefore I did an MScR in Regenerative medicine and tissue repair. During my masters I had the opportunity of learning and applying a wide array of techniques that I had never used before, and that I think made me a better scientist.
I always tackled biology with great enthusiasm, which was reflected in the academic achievements I received.
During my education so far I wrote 3 dissertations (1 for my BSc and 2 for my MScR) and I got distinctions for all of them and also an award for my MScR dissertation.
I now embarked into a PhD on 'Improving pancreatic islet transplantation for the treatment of type 1 diabetes' and I am looking forward to seeing what I am going to achieve during this time.
Overall, I want to spread the message that science can be accessible and fun, and I would love to be able to help you achieve your learning goals!

I offer lessons anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours long, depending on what you need. I have previous experience tutoring high school students mostly and some university students too (BSc level).
what do i have to offer and why would you choose me?
I can help with revision, providing useful techniques for information recalling to make sure the information you're learning is well absorbed.
I can give you tips on assignments and essay writing, how to make a good plan and cover all the crucial points.
I can proof read essays and dissertations and give you insightful feedback on how to make it stand out.
I can help you read and understand scientific papers.
I can explain topics in an easier format that is straight to the point, to make sure you understand biology at its core, which will then enable you to think about your assignments in a more critical way.
I can offer lessons on any biology topic, including plant science, genetics, cell biology, molecular biology, immunology, biochemistry and biotechnology (and more if needed, just ask).
I am going to give you useful exercises to do outside of the lesson to make the most of it, depending on your needs and situation.
I will be able to give lessons in the afternoons of most week days (from 4pm). I have some time flexibility with my PhD, so I am sure we can arrange a time and day that would be suitable for both you and me!
