About Hannah
I’m Hannah, a Neuroscience student at the University of St Andrews with a strong academic background in biology and psychology. With A1s (9s) in National 5 and Higher Biology, I have a deep understanding of biological concepts and a passion for making science engaging and accessible for students of all levels. Sessions are typically online, but I can travel to you if you are a reasonable distance from St Andrews. I have experience tutoring GCSE/National 5 and A-Level/Higher to secondary school students, and I have participated in university-led peer support programmes allowing me to support my younger university peers with introductory Biology and Psychology university classes. My approach to tutoring is student-focused and adaptable, ensuring that each lesson is interactive, structured, and tailored to suit different learning styles. Beyond teaching, I specialise in exam preparation, coursework support, and study techniques, helping students master key concepts, tackle past papers, and develop effective revision strategies. Whether you're struggling with biology or aiming for top grades, I’m here to support you every step of the way! I believe that biology should be engaging, accessible, and tailored to each student’s learning style. My lessons are interactive and structured, breaking down complex concepts into clear, step-by-step explanations. I use a mix of: - Visual aids (diagrams, mind maps, videos) to simplify difficult topics - Active discussions & questioning to encourage critical thinking - Exam practice (past papers, mark schemes, and revision techniques) to build confidence and exam success A typical lesson lasts 60 minutes, but I can adapt session lengths based on individual needs. Each lesson includes: - A quick recap of previous topics to reinforce learning - Step-by-step explanations of new material using tailored methods - Practice questions & problem-solving to solidify understanding - Exam techniques & tips (if required) to improve performance My Qualifications & Experience: I am a Neuroscience student at the University of St Andrews, achieving an A1 (9) in National 5 and Higher Biology. I have been highly involved with university-initiated peer tutoring programmes, helping my peers improve their grades from 2:2's to high 2:1's in introductory Biology & Statistics classes. From 2022-2024, I worked as a GCSE/National 5 Biology tutor, providing one-on-one support to secondary school students. Through tailored lessons and targeted exam preparation, I helped students improve their understanding and boost their grades from C’s to A’s. I also have worked as a study group leader within the university, structuring revision plans and offering academic writing support for younger peers. I tutor students at a range of levels, including: National 5 / GCSE Biology Higher / A-Level Biology University-level Biology & Neuroscience I also offer tutoring in Mathematics, English, and Geography at a GCSE / National 5 and A-Level / Higher Level, or below! My tutoring is suitable for students looking to improve their understanding of the subject, boost their grades, and prepare for exams. My goal is to help students feel confident in biology and develop a deeper understanding of the subject.
