I adapt my approach depending on the student’s learning style, whether they are more visual, auditory, or kinesthetic learners.
I also emphasize a growth mindset, teaching students that it's okay to make mistakes as long as they learn from them. This helps build confidence and reduces fear around challenging subjects like math and science.
A Typical Lesson Plan
Review (5-10 minutes): Start by revisiting the concepts covered in the last session and addressing any questions or challenges the student faced.
New Concept Introduction (15-20 minutes): Introduce a new topic using examples that are relevant to the student’s level. For example, in math, I might use everyday objects to explain fractions, and in science, I would use relatable scenarios to explain basic physics or biology concepts.
Practice and Application (20-25 minutes): Work through practice questions together, first guiding the student, and then allowing them to attempt problems on their own. I'll provide real-world scenarios for science and create extra math questions to challenge them.
Q&A/Discussion (10-15 minutes): Allow the student to ask questions and encourage a discussion about the topic to ensure they grasp the material fully.
Homework or Extra Practice: Depending on the student's needs, I would assign extra practice problems or offer test prep to reinforce the material.
