I’ve been completing a PhD in Theoretical Physics since October 2021 at King’s College London (having secured PhD offers from Cambridge and KCL), with the intention of remaining in academia as a career. I have recently finished my Masters of Mathematics at Trinity College, Cambridge. While at Cambridge, I’ve spent my spare time helping other students prepare for admission to Oxbridge: MAT/STEP Preparation, mastering A-Level Maths, and Mock Oxbridge Interviews. I’ve also had a lot of experience tutoring mathematics more widely (mostly to students at A-Level). I’m pleased to say that my success rate for students receiving an offer to Oxbridge (and securing the grades to meet their offer), has been 40-50% in recent years. Others have gone on to high-profile UK universities, such as Imperial and Warwick. My A-Level students regularly gain one or two grade jumps in their final results, when compared to pre-tuition mock tests. My teaching sessions are effective, by: - Regularly determining the student’s weak areas to focus the tuition - Setting weekly homework for the student to complete, to consolidate their knowledge - Inspiring the student to think about extension material, once we’ve mastered the basics Ultimately, the form of the tutoring sessions is guided by the needs of the student. This is identified by having an initial half-price session, where we can discuss a plan for our tutoring and get to know one another. Most of my tuition occurs online (cutting out any additional travel costs, and allowing us to communicate from any distance!), and I utilise an iPad (with screen sharing on Zoom/Skype) to show my writing on the student’s screen, making it easy for the student to follow along. Due to my other commitments, my preferred availability is evenings/weekends (UK time). Please get in touch if this doesn’t work for you - it should be possible to work something out!
