About Claire
Hello! I am a graduate of Anglo-Saxon, Norse and Celtic at Cambridge University. It uses interdisciplinary study to examine the literature, history and language of those cultures in the Middle Ages. This gives me a great background in English language and literature as we study its foundation. I am happy to work on history techniques in general and most European history topics. If you are taking any papers covering medieval British history I will be ecstatic! I am also happy to work on Irish literature both modern and medieval. Despite not being my subject focus I have excellent grades (A*+1sts) for papers at A-level and university level in archaeology and I run many projects at an archaeological research company called Reclaim Heritage CIC.

The first thing to do is always to create interest for the student. Show them why it matters. Of course you need to prepare for exams properly to reflect what you have learnt and give yourself the best opportunities, but nothing will help you more than a genuine interest in the material. I use a range of online sources to tutor and I create my own handouts to simplify the key information in a digestible way. I focus on a multimedia approach so the information has a chance to get in through different senses; such as recommending an academic podcast as homework for the basis of a discussion. Revision is treated as an entirely separate phase to avoid the confusion of "revision" that is actually just learning for the first time. I encourage students to explain to me for a few minutes what their answer would be to an exam question. This is when you really know if they can answer it under pressure with clear thought. This is something focussed on at Cambridge through the supervision system. I provide source worksheets. Quote strategies for closed book exams. Teaching what counts as "enough" of a particularly kind of analysis or evidence for the mark scheme. Engaging with my student intellectually on the material and then honing that interest so they can get the grades they deserve. University of Cambridge - Anglo-Saxon Norse and Celtic. Other Qualifications : CFS: Child Safety Certificate Futureversity: Young Mentoring Certificate
