About Theo
I taught undergraduates at Cambridge University during my PhD. I have also tutored 13-18 year-old students and university students for private education providers. I enjoyed that intellectual exchange so much that I continue to tutor alongside my research and writing.
I hold a PhD in history and work as a journalist and researcher. I am currently a Visiting Fellow at Australian National University, and my writing on global affairs and culture has been published in The Washington Post, The Economist, The Sunday Times, The Wall Street Journal and others.
Having appeared as a commentator on CNN, NPR and Sky News, among others, I bring both academic rigour and media experience to our sessions. And because I have written extensively on politics, religion, culture, literature, and history, I am able to supervise students across a wide range of disciplines. My goal, ultimately, is to make you good at learning ANYTHING.

I tailor every session to what you need, whether that is discussing a complex topic you encountered in class, working on essay structure, or improving your academic writing. Having supervised undergraduates at Cambridge, I have extensive experience guiding students through essay questions, research methods, and writing clearly under pressure.
My approach focuses on two main pillars:
- Content: Understanding the topic, analysing evidence, and grasping the bigger picture.
Form: Structuring arguments logically, expressing ideas with precision, and writing clearly.
In the age of AI, critical thinking and human writing are more important than ever. They are what will make students stand out on the job market. My goal is to help you become AI-proof.
Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the teacher
As the historian who supervised Theo’s Master’s dissertation, I was highly impressed not only by his academic strengths but also by his excellence as a communicator both orally and in writing. Impressive, too, is the enthusiasm that he brings to all he does. There are few who have such mastery of both English and French. He has extensive experience as a university tutor, and I am sure that he excels as a teacher – responsive to the needs of students – just as in all else that he does.
I know Theo‘s work as a journalist, which is dynamic, thoroughly researched, and deeply original. I’ve since come to know him also as a friend, who is notably kind and generous. He has a detailed knowledge of a wide range of subjects, through his experience as a screenwriter, his expertise as a historian, and the work he has done for the think tank the Henry Jackson Society. The consequence is he is knowledgeable about a wide range of subjects, from mid 20th century American politics to contemporary British prison reform. We collaborated on an article together—not an easy thing to do. The process was fun and relaxed and the result was one of the most successful articles I’ve ever written or co-written.
I can highly recommend Theo as an outstanding tutor, having taught alongside him as undergraduate supervisor at the University of Cambridge. I have also recommended Theo to international education providers who spoke very highly of his professionalism and his ability to tailor his instruction according to his students’ needs.
Theo is a kind and warm man who is deeply intellectual. I could not recommend him more highly.
