About Sian

Hi, my name is Sian. I am 20 years old. I am from Wales but go to University in Cambridge which I am really enjoying. I wouldn't be where I was if it wasn't for my tutors outside of school and hope to provide a similar helping hand to the next generation. Sometimes the school environment isn't for everyone and a more personal teaching style, especially from someone who has been through the exact same education system can be exactly what is needed for students to reach their potential. I am a relaxed and fun teacher who will probably be quite similar in age to you. I find that this eases the pressure of the school setting allowing students to enjoy a learning environment with someone they may be able to relate to more. I am looking forward to getting to know you and, again, let me know if you have any more questions.

About the lesson

Everyone learns differently. My lessons are about the pupil and will be tailored to their learning style and individual needs. I will tend to focus on skills which can then be applied to specific texts that students may be struggling with, for example finding poetic techniques and associating meaning to them. I can however focus on particular texts if specifically requested. Typical lengths of a session will be 40 minutes to an hour but I will offer more closer to important exams and assessments. I have tutored students casually throughout school and have always received positive feedback about my patience and ability to adapt my teaching depending on the pupil. I have had lots of experience teaching students younger than me in a range of activities so feel confident that I can develop good student/pupil relationships with students. I am most confident in teaching GCSE and A-level English literature because these are the exams I have most recently sat but am more than happy to help with younger students. I specialise in literature so can help best with students who need help analysing texts and poetry. I sat the WJEC exam but the basic skills of analysis are similar across the different boards. Feel free to ask me any more specific questions if they arise.
