• Tell us more about your subject. How did you develop an interest in this field?

  Unlike subjects that rely heavily on memorization, I have always been drawn to the logic and structure of Mathematics. So post Middle Grades my inclination towards topics such as Geometry, Algebra, Probability grew and I found a genuine passion for the problem-solving process."

• What or who is the motivation behind you choosing to teach & why?

  At home whenever someone asked me anything, I explained very clearly and patiently and over the years I got consistent feedback from my relatives and friends that I explain and teach very well. Ex I taught my mother and cousins how to drive, explained cooking techniques at home, helped college friends understand academic concepts, and guided people through various tasks. These experiences made me realize that I have a natural inclination toward teaching and mentoring, which eventually inspired me to pursue teaching seriously.

• How does your work help society?

  Teaching is like sowing a seed—it requires patience and time, but when the results appear, they are incredibly fulfilling. Over the years, I have seen many of my students grow academically and personally. Their confidence has increased significantly, and their approach toward learning has become more positive and independent. These transformations bring a deep sense of satisfaction to both parents and me,

• If you had to think of a role model for your work, who do you think of & why?

  I have had amazing teachers and one of them was Mrs Eknathan, who taught us English. She would make the most boring stories in English to be enjoyable and interesting with her energy, creativity, and teaching style. Her passion inspired me to believe that the way a subject is taught can completely change how students perceive it.

• Tell us about your hobbies outside teaching.

  I enjoy exercising, reading, cleaning, cooking, gardening and many more!

• Do you have an anecdote to tell us about your student or professional life?

  Many positive anecdotes I would say, One practice I follow is encouraging students to say positive affirmations before we begin a lesson. One of my Grade 10 students initially laughed shyly when asked to do this. However, after a few months, she told me, “Teacher Shraddha, I really like Math now,”—an affirmation she once repeated reluctantly. She also shared that I was the best Math teacher she had ever had, which truly made my day.Another student, who previously disliked Mathematics, completely transformed her attitude after six months of learning with me, and Math eventually became her favorite subject. A Grade 5 student once proudly told me, “I’m doing so well in class now that I feel like the nerd of my class.” These moments reaffirm my belief in the power of encouragement and effective teaching.
