About Hannah

Hi, I'm Hannah — a certified English Language Arts teacher with a BS in English Language Arts Education and hands-on classroom experience teaching middle and high school students in Georgia, USA.

During my teacher training I co-taught 8th Grade English Language Arts at Griffin Middle School and 10th Grade World Literature at Osborne High School, developing lesson plans, assessing student work and tracking progress. I also worked as an AVID Facilitator at Palmer Middle School, delivering small group academic support focused on study skills and college readiness.

After qualifying, I joined Atlanta Urban Squash as Academic Director — a sports-based youth development charity — where I designed academic programmes and personally tutored high school students in English, with a focus on grade progression and graduation outcomes.

I'm a native English speaker and fluent in French, which gives me a strong instinct for how language works and how to explain it clearly.

What I love most about teaching English is seeing the moment a student realises they can actually enjoy it. I'm passionate about helping young people discover that improving their writing isn't a chore — it's a way of expressing who they are. Understanding that precise word choice gives them the power to say exactly what they mean, and to assert their individuality, is at the heart of what I believe good English teaching should achieve. And when better writing translates into better marks, something else happens too — students start to take real pride in their English, and that confidence carries well beyond the classroom.

Based in South London, I offer sessions online or face to face in SW16.

My approach to tutoring is friendly, patient and entirely student-centred. I believe young people learn best when they feel comfortable, so my first priority is building a relaxed and encouraging environment where there's no such thing as a silly question.

Before we begin I'm always happy to speak with parents to understand what they're hoping to achieve, gain their insight into their child's strengths and challenges, and hear what teachers have said at school. That context means we can make the most of every session from the very start.

Sessions are conducted online using screen sharing and interactive whiteboard tools, or face to face in South London. We will primarily work from whatever the student is doing at school — their current texts, essays, assignments or areas where they're struggling — so that every session has immediate, practical relevance to their studies. At the end of each session I will set targeted homework designed to strengthen a specific skill, whether that's structuring an argument, improving vocabulary, or developing reading comprehension.

Our first session will focus on getting to know the student — understanding their strengths, where they'd like to improve, and what they find challenging — so that I can tailor my approach from there.

My lessons are suitable for KS3, GCSE and A-Level students aged 11 to 18. Whether a student needs support keeping up, wants to push for a higher grade, or simply needs to build confidence in their written English, I'm here to help.
