About Nora
I have known that I wanted to be a teacher since I was a child so I started early by tutoring for AVID as soon as high school. I then went to UCR and earned my bachelor's as well as a minor in Education. I stayed at UCR to get my English Teaching Credential and Master's in Education.
Since then I have been teaching Language Arts at the middle and high school level for 9 years. It has been the privilege of my life to guide students to their future.

My Approach as an ELA Tutor
Teaching Method and Techniques
My approach is student-centered, structured, and skills-focused. I work to build confidence while strengthening core literacy skills—reading comprehension, writing clarity, and critical thinking. I break down complex tasks (like essay writing or text analysis) into manageable steps, model each step clearly, and then guide students as they practice independently. I use a mix of direct instruction, guided practice, and discussion to keep students engaged and actively thinking. I also incorporate strategies like annotation, sentence frames, and graphic organizers to support different learning styles.
Typical Lesson Plan
A typical session begins with a quick check-in and review of previous skills. From there, I introduce a focused objective (for example, identifying theme or improving paragraph structure). I model the skill using a short text or example, thinking aloud so students can see the process. Next, we practice together, with the student applying the skill with support. The lesson ends with independent practice and feedback, along with a brief summary of what was learned and a goal for next time.
What Sets Me Apart
What sets me apart is my ability to make reading and writing feel approachable and achievable, especially for middle school students who may feel frustrated or behind. I do this by making sure my content is interesting and relevant to students. I emphasize growth and progress, not perfection, and I tailor each lesson to the student’s needs and pace. As a middle school ELA teacher, I understand current academic expectations and common challenges students face, which allows me to provide targeted, practical support that directly impacts their school performance.
Who My Lessons Are For
My lessons are designed for any student who needs extra support and those who want to get ahead. I specialize in helping struggling readers, improving writing skills, building strong paragraph and essay structure, and preparing students for the transition into high school-level English. I also support summer learning, helping students maintain and strengthen their skills between school years.
