About Rachel
Hi, I’m Rachel and I have 15 years of teaching experience and a Master’s degree in Instructional Leadership. Throughout my career, I have taught all core subjects in grades 4 through 8 and have developed a strong passion for helping students grow in both skill and confidence.
I specialize in reading and writing for students in 3rd through 12th grade, as well as math for students in 2nd through 6th grade and social studies for students in 3rd through 6th grade. I believe that every student is capable of success with the right support, guidance, and encouragement.
My teaching philosophy is centered on building confident, independent learners. I do not simply provide answers—I guide students to think critically, ask questions, and truly understand what they are learning. I also believe that every subject is a reading and writing subject, and I intentionally integrate those skills into all of my lessons to strengthen comprehension and critical thinking.
I strive to create a positive, structured, and supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable taking risks, making mistakes, and growing. I am passionate about helping students overcome challenges, develop a love for learning, and gain skills they can carry with them far beyond the classroom.

My approach as a tutor is centered on building confidence, encouraging critical thinking, and creating a personalized learning experience for every student. I believe that students learn best when they feel supported, challenged, and actively engaged in the process. Rather than simply giving answers, I guide students to think through problems, ask questions, and make meaningful connections so they truly understand what they are learning.
I specialize in reading and writing for students in 3rd through 12th grade, as well as math for students in 2nd through 6th grade and social studies for students in 3rd through 6th grade. I am especially passionate about reading and writing and believe that every subject is a reading and writing subject. Because of this, I intentionally integrate vocabulary, comprehension, and writing strategies into all lessons to strengthen students’ critical thinking skills across subjects.
My teaching method is interactive and structured, while still being flexible based on each student’s needs. I use a combination of guided instruction, discussion, modeling, and hands-on practice. I incorporate strategies such as think-alouds, questioning techniques, graphic organizers, and step-by-step problem solving. I also use engaging tools like visual aids, games, and interactive activities to keep students focused and motivated.
I meet students exactly where they are while helping them grow into confident, independent learners. I focus not only on academic skills, but also on teaching students how to think, how to approach challenges, and how to persevere through difficult tasks. I create a supportive environment where students feel comfortable making mistakes and learning from them, while also being encouraged to challenge themselves.
My lessons are ideal for students who may be struggling, need extra support, or want to strengthen their skills and confidence. I also work well with students who need help staying engaged, organizing their thinking, or developing stronger study habits. Each session is tailored to the individual student to ensure they feel both supported and successful.
Ultimately, my goal is for every student to leave sessions feeling more confident, capable, and equipped with skills they can apply both in and out of the classroom.
