About Oluwajuwon
Hi, I'm a 2nd-year PhD student in Synthetic Organic Chemistry and really enjoy helping people with their understanding of things (chemistry-related). I actually remember struggling quite a lot with my subject when I was around 16 to 18 yrs old. The biggest difference was having people who enjoyed the subject and were passionate about helping others progress in it too. I've experienced this first-hand and now have a chance to help others. I believe in sharing what you know and encouraging others to build their confidence in an area they struggle with.

In terms of what to expect, I hope to conduct 1 h sessions and really like having a structure when assisting people with their learning. I aim to have core content explained and give opportunities before and after this to gauge familiarity and confidence for a topic, as well as evaluate understanding of what's been taught. With an online format, I find it helpful to lay out content in ppt presentations and utilise online resources to help engagement (Kahoot & Mentimeter). From my experience in higher education, I can remember how important it was to practise exam papers, to gauge understanding but also train myself to recall relevant information in limited time. That's why for my sessions, I'm hoping to set timed exam qs towards the end of sessions to allow the student to have a go at putting into practice what's learned. I've had some experience tutoring and facilitating learning of young people in Scottish Highers Chemistry (English equivalent is Lower & Upper Sixth Form) as well as undergraduates in 1st year Chemistry. I've grown up in London and have completed all my education up until my PhD in England so am very familiar with A-level Chemistry (OCR exam board).
