About Ian
Hi! My name is Ian Bacon, and I am currently a freshman at UC Santa Barbara studying Neuroscience and French. I have 14 years of experience playing piano and plan to continue taking private lessons in college. Since my school is completely remote this year, I am hoping to make the most of it and share my love for piano with others through my lessons. I play mostly classical pieces, but I enjoy learning and teaching other genres of music as well. I have been providing lessons to people in my building for the past two years and am hoping to branch out.

When I start teaching another student, we first discuss their prior experience with the piano and if they have prior experience, I ask them to play a piece they have learned as well as sight-read a piece I provide. This serves solely to give me an idea of the students current playing-ability and areas in which they can improve. After doing so, I curate the student's learning based on their ability and areas of improvement, working with the student to choose a piece that they will enjoy learning, is at an appropriate difficulty level, and will help them work on the areas of their playing they can improve upon.
