About Renae
I am a college senior, starting grad school this year. I’ve been teaching children for about three years. Piano was my first love as a child and I genuinely believe that all children hold a potential for creativity that can come alive through piano.

My teaching method is to integrate music theory as well as developing a child’s ability to use chords and progressions to express themselves creatively. I teach them to read sheet music as well as proper body/finger posture and mechanics. I do this by allowing them to “master” up to two written pieces at a time (depending on age and progress). I believe in music theory ability to open and expand the mind, but I also believe in focusing on building “creative muscle” in the brain as well. Encouraging students to create simple or complex melodies of expression, or eventually full pieces is important to me, even (and especially) with young learners.
