About Nicholas
I am an incoming college student at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign where I will pursue Computer Engineering. In high school, I obtained a 4.4 cumulative GPA and received 5s on numerous AP exams including Calculus BC, Physics C, Computer Science A, etc. As a recent high school student, I retain a strong understanding in foundational math courses and can relate well to students' learning experiences while having advanced knowledge of mathematics and physics extending through multivariable calculus and calculus-based electromagnetism.
I have experience tutoring through a multitude of methods. Firstly, I ran my high school's Peer Tutoring Program for two years, connecting struggling students with tutors and facilitating accessible one-on-one assistance. Not only was I involved in leading program outreach and tutor recruitment, but I also personally tutored several students in subjects ranging from basic algebra to calculus, accumulating hundreds of tutoring hours along the way. I also gained experience designing educational material by designing a website containing hundreds of hand-crafted practice questions for AP courses. The website received approval from numerous teachers, and was well-received at both his high school and beyond. Furthermore, I spent my summers creating curriculum for and teaching group SAT math preparation sessions on a website called "Schoolhouse." In small groups of 2–10 students, I worked with learners from around the world while also onboarding new tutors and auditing their sessions, contributing to a high standard of tutor instruction in the program.

As a tutor, I focus on building understanding through guided practice, repetition, and active problem-solving. I believe students learn best when they take the lead in working through problems, with me acting as a guide rather than just giving answers. A typical lesson starts with quickly identifying problem areas, reviewing key ideas when needed, and then working through practice problems together. Throughout the session, I encourage students to think out loud, ask questions, and correct mistakes in real time.
I stand out for my strong STEM background in calculus, physics, and computer science, along with my experience leading peer tutoring programs and creating original practice materials. I’m used to explaining concepts in different ways depending on the student and focusing on the specific gaps in understanding. My lessons are designed for middle and high school students needing help in math and physics, from algebra and geometry through calculus and introductory physics, with an emphasis on building problem-solving skills and confidence.
