About John
Hello! I am a college student double majoring in psychology and business management at Old Dominion University, located in Norfolk, Virginia. I have a passion for seeing individuals grow, set high reaching standards, and exceeding those standards. I've turned this passion into psychological research, but as an undergraduate it was hard to become a research assistant in labs with only PhD students and professors. However, this didn't stop me from pursuing my passion.
After 12 failed attempts of earning a research assistantship in a lab, I finally started a position in not only one psychology lab, but 3 total during my first year of college. Since then, I've gained a tremendous amount of research under my belt and I've had the opportunity to mentor other undergraduates in setting high goals and breaking through them.
During my time at ODU, I noticed many students were struggling with their statistics courses. Having a passion for research and conducting many statistics within these labs, I figured I could help these students as a Teaching Assistant. I applied my same philosophy of setting high goals and breaking through them, and I helped many originally failing students not only pass their classes, but ace their classes.
After my time as a teaching assistant, my professor was kind enough to let me know that of all her teaching assistants, most of which were PhD students, that I as an undergraduate was the most effective at the position.
I believe with my passion for statistics and seeing individuals grow and flourish, I could be the perfect high school statistics tutor for you!

As a tutor, I love seeing my students grow as individuals. I set up each lesson tailored to their learning needs.
I've come up with learning goals and study plans for my students to follow along in their school years, and I've kept them accountable as well.
My study sessions often comprise me asking the student guided questions so they can discover the answer and knowledge necessary for the lesson as opposed to giving them the answers.
At college, I would often communicate with the statistics teacher to stay in line with their teaching methods and branch out to other methods if necessary for the students' understandings.
I have a strong passion for statistics as well. I've produced 10 peer reviewed academic works (and counting) as an undergraduate with plans to attend PhD programs in I-O psychology, delving further into qualitative and quantitative statistical principles and its applications to behavior in the workplace.
Given my passion for statistics and psychology, I conduct research primarily on goal-setting, self-efficacy, self-regulation, loci of control, and other constructs vital to how we learn, grow, and perform. I apply these constructs to how I teach as well, primarily engaging in self-regulation (e.g., setting up a goal for school and using reverse planning) and having a growth mindset (e.g., viewing all skills and attributes as malleable and a product of the work we put forth).
My lessons are for students who are taking high school statistics courses ranging from general education to AP courses.
