Find out more about Salomé

  • When did you first develop a passion for music and your favourite instrument?

I can't remember when I first fell in love with music. My mother is a piano professor, so music was all around me since I was born. I absolutely adored the piano from as soon as I heard it, but also loved drums, saxophone and the flute!
  • 2) Is there a particular type music or artist that you listen to on a loop without it driving you crazy?

I listen to many different genres of music - Classical, jazz, funk, electronic. I can always listen to Bossa nova. I absolutely love Jamiroquai and any kind of funky music! There are periods when I listen to a certain genre of music on loop and I can't seem to stop! Then it changes to a different artist or genre.
  • 3) Explain to us the most difficult or riveting course you could personally give to a student of music.

The most difficult and interesting task we have a teachers is to teach our students how to express themselves freely. How to put our fingers in service to the music, so that the technical side of music poses no threat to our musical one. That's something we can direct our students to, but they will certainly have to work towards this goal themselves as well.
  • 4) What do you think is the most complicated instrument to master and why?

In the words of the great masters - "piano is the most difficult instrument to master, but the most joyous once you've mastered it"
  • 5) What are your keys to success?

    Love, practice and determination.
  • 6) Name three musicians you dream of meeting in your favourite bar in the early hours of the morning. Explain why.

I would love to have met Oscar Peterson, Frederic Chopin and Antonio Carlos Jobim. All three are my favorite musicians representing different genres of music. I admire them all for many different reasons and I think it would be incredible to sit down with each of them and share our musical journeys with one another.
  • 7) Provide a valuable anecdote related to music or your days at music school.

I don't know if it's much of an anecdote, but I have dreams sometimes, that I have a concert, where they announce a different programme from what I have to play, I step on stage and am forced to play a piece of music, which I have never even looked at! I have spoken to a few friends about this and they all have the same dreams! Must be a musician thing!
  • 8) What are the little touches that make you a Superprof in music?

I like to get to know my students, so along with being their teacher, I become a friend that they can trust. They can always email me between lessons if they have more questions about their musical pieces.
I tailor my lessons to each individual student. I like to make lessons extremely fun and informative. If I see that my student likes detailed work and is a serious professional, we go into as much detail as we can, music really is a never-ending world of discovery, so I like to make sure there isn't too much for the student to struggle with on their own.
If the student is learning piano for fun, as a hobby, we will concentrate on getting quick results, and learning as much as we can during the lesson, so that they don't have to practice too much on their own!
