About Ayla
I am a Chemistry tutor with 5 years of experience and a BSc in Medicinal Chemistry. I have taught over 180 students from GCSE through to early undergraduate level. My medicinal chemistry background means I can draw on a particularly rich range of real-world chemical applications when illustrating concepts, from drug synthesis to materials design, which consistently helps students see the genuine relevance and interest of the subject. I am known among my students for finding new and often memorable analogies for chemical concepts that might otherwise seem abstract. Let me help you develop a rich, motivated, and connected understanding of Chemistry.

My Chemistry teaching uses real-world chemical applications as the motivating context for every topic, because students who understand why a chemical concept matters are dramatically more engaged with learning how it works. Organic chemistry is introduced through the pharmaceutical and materials applications of different functional groups before the reaction mechanisms are developed, because knowing why chemists care about nucleophilic substitution reactions makes learning the mechanism feel purposeful rather than arbitrary. Physical chemistry calculations are taught through the specific reasoning that connects the underlying physical situation to the mathematical model, because students who understand the physics of the gas laws handle non-standard gas law problems far better than those who have only memorised PV = nRT. My approach to periodic table trends builds students' ability to predict and explain properties from first principles — electronegativity, atomic radius, ionisation energy, reactivity — because this predictive reasoning is what examination questions actually test rather than recall of memorised trend statements. I address the common confusion between equations and equilibria explicitly at every level where it appears, because this conceptual distinction underlies a disproportionate share of both student difficulty and examiner comments. Chemical calculations are taught with attention to significant figures, unit analysis, and rounding conventions because these procedural habits prevent the easily avoidable errors that cost marks on otherwise correct working. My teaching goal is a student who sees Chemistry as a logical, coherent, and genuinely fascinating subject.
