About Amanda
I am currently teaching at the elementary school level. I have been a teacher of record for 5 years and in the education system for 7 years. I have an extensive background in working with youth. My background also includes working as a competitive soccer referee (18 years of experience) and soccer coach and camp coordinator (9 years). I really enjoy working with students and players to create game-like opportunities for them to grow and have fun while learning. I have worked with middle school students who needed to earn better grades to play sports, which meant a lot of small group or 1:1 tutoring sessions. I have strengths in working with students with dyslexia, autism, dyscalculia, and emotional needs. Let's get reading!

I believe that students deserve multi-sensory, evidence-based practices to support their reading and literacy development, which follows the science of reading. This is why I use Orton Gillingham methodology and curriculum in my teaching. I use the Sonday System Phonics program (an Orton Gillingham product) to reach students in elementary and middle school, who are struggling to keep up with standardized reading benchmarks. My lessons are fast-paced, regimented, and engaging. Students know what to expect and develop tools to not only help them decode and read more fluently, but also more developed encoding/ spelling habits. I also work to strengthen my students' levels understanding of vocabulary and literary elements. I can offer decodable texts and resources to students during and after lessons. As a credentialed educator with a master's degree in special education, I have strengths in working with students who may have learning disabilities, a 504 Plan, or IEP. I have helped special education teams qualify and exit students from the special education system.
