About Dara
I am a graduate-entry medical student with an academic background in law, including an undergraduate degree and a Master's in Law. Before studying medicine, I developed strong skills in critical reading, argument analysis, and clear written communication—skills that are central to success in the GAMSAT. I enjoy teaching because I understand how challenging the GAMSAT can feel, particularly for students coming from non-traditional backgrounds. My aim is to help students build confidence, think clearly under pressure, and develop reasoning and writing skills that are transferable across all question styles. I take a supportive, structured, and personalized approach to ensure each student feels guided, motivated, and well prepared.

Approach to Tutoring & Teaching Style: My teaching approach is highly personalized and student-centered, focusing on building strong reasoning skills rather than rote techniques. Each lesson is tailored to the student’s specific strengths, weaknesses, and exam goals. I emphasize clear structure, critical thinking, and transferable skills that can be applied across unfamiliar texts and prompts. For Section 1, I focus on close reading, argument analysis, and efficient reasoning strategies for complex humanities and social science passages. For Section 2, I teach structured planning, idea generation, and refined written expression for both creative and formal essays, helping students develop a confident and adaptable writing style under time pressure. Lesson Structure & Length: Lessons are typically 1 hour in length and are structured but flexible. Sessions may include worked examples, timed practice, feedback on essays, and targeted skill development depending on the student’s needs. Qualifications & Experience: I am a third year graduate-entry medical student at UCD with an undergraduate degree in Law and a Master's in Law. I have previous experience tutoring for the GAMSAT, particularly in the humanities-based sections. My academic background in law strongly informs my teaching of critical reasoning, argument construction, and clear written communication. Who the Lessons Are For: Lessons are suitable for GAMSAT candidates of all backgrounds, particularly those seeking support with: Section 1 reading comprehension and reasoning Section 2 creative and formal essay writing This includes first-time sitters as well as repeat candidates aiming to improve their score.
