About Jack
My name is Jack, and I'm a 24-year-old student in East London studying Computer Science at Queen Mary. I also attended the University of Cambridge, initially studying Natural Sciences and later Linguistics, so have a broad range of academic interests and experience. I mainly tutor maths and chemistry, as these were my favourite subjects at school. I try to foster a natural curiosity and to help students learn through supervised practice rather than through rote process, as is so often taught in maths. Please don't hesitate to reach out and ask any questions!

In maths and the physical sciences, the key to success is a combination of knowledge and its application to novel examples. I believe in the value of practice and continuous recall, so you can expect me to ask lots of questions as we go to test your understanding. For the most part, I don't think the lecture-style format is an engaging way to learn, so I prioritise involving students as much as possible in any explanations. I'm happy to be flexible with lesson timings, but think the optimum length is between 40 and 90 minutes. In my experience of online tutoring, I find students tend to start to lose focus at the end of a one hour lesson! I usually teach Maths and Chemistry to GCSE level, but since my knowledge ranges to A-level and beyond I would be happy to discuss higher level tuition. Lessons can take place in person or over Zoom/Teams, but my preference is usually for the former as I think it leads to better results for everyone. Qualifications: - A-levels at A*A*A*A in Chemistry, Maths, Further Maths and Physics - Gained a place to study Natural Sciences at Cambridge in 2019 - Began my Computer Science BSc at QMUL in 2024 - Gave 100+ hours of lessons on MyTutor 2020-21, including state-school partnered lessons
