About Francesca
Hi! I’m Fran, a 2D and 3D animation instructor with over 10 years of experience teaching animation, filmmaking, and art. I’m passionate about helping students discover their voice as visual storytellers and giving them the skills to bring their ideas to life. I earned my MFA in 3D Animation from Pratt Institute, where I trained in both the artistic and technical sides of animation. Since then, I’ve spent years teaching animation in the classroom and working one-on-one with students of different ages and skill levels—from complete beginners to students preparing portfolios for college and creative careers.

In my lessons, we focus on building real animation skills step by step while keeping things fun, practical, and tailored to you. I’ve spent 10+ years teaching animation, filmmaking, and art, and I hold an MFA in 3D Animation from Pratt Institute, so I’m very comfortable meeting students at all levels—from absolute beginners to more advanced animators preparing portfolios or reels. What I teach 2D & 3D Animation Fundamentals Core animation principles: timing, spacing, squash & stretch, anticipation, arcs, follow-through, etc. How to plan shots, pose characters, and bring believable movement to life Acting and performance in animation (clear emotion, intention, and storytelling) 3D Animation Character and object animation in 3D (walk cycles, body mechanics, acting shots) Working with cameras, staging, and composition Clean workflow, organizing scenes, and polishing your shots 2D / Visual Storytelling & Art Storyboarding and film language (shots, cuts, pacing) Character design and visual development Drawing for animation: gesture, posing, and expression How lessons work Personalized to your goals.. We start by talking about what you want: improve class assignments, build a portfolio, start from scratch, or work toward a specific project. Project-based learning.. You’ll work on short exercises and larger projects (like a short scene, test animation, or portfolio piece) so you’re always applying what you learn. Clear demos & feedback.. I share my screen, walk through examples, and give you specific, actionable feedback on your work so you know exactly what to improve. Comfortable, encouraging environment.. My teaching style is patient, structured, and supportive. You can ask questions at any time, and we’ll move at a pace that feels right for you.
