About Ochaya
Welcome!
Clear, confident communication is one of the most powerful tools a learner can develop. As a dedicated educator, Global Youth Ambassador, and former Building Tomorrow Fellow, my goal is to help every student master spoken English, phonetic accuracy, and reading literacy.
My approach is rooted in Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL) and Social-Emotional Learning (SEL). I have extensive hands-on experience working with individuals of widely varying competence—from complete beginners struggling with foundational sounds to advanced learners refining their oral expression. By evaluating where a student is today, I adapt course content, pacing, and materials to match their individual learning style and immediate needs.

My Teaching Approach & Methodology
My lessons are built on an inclusive, student-centered approach rooted in Social-Emotional Learning (SEL). Drawing from my fellowship with Building Tomorrow, I prioritize creating a safe, encouraging space where learners feel confident taking risks with language. I combine structured phonetic practice with interactive reading activities to help students make steady, natural progress.
A Typical Lesson Plan
Each 60-minute session is tailored to the student and structured for maximum engagement:
Check-In & Warm-Up (10 mins): A gentle SEL-focused conversation to build rapport and practice spontaneous oral expression.
Core Skill Focus (25 mins): Explicit instruction on phonetics, pronunciation mechanics, or reading comprehension using tailored texts.
Interactive Practice (15 mins): Guided reading aloud, speech drills, or conversational exercises to apply new concepts immediately.
Wrap-Up & Reflection (10 mins): Celebrating wins, reviewing key sounds or vocabulary, and setting light targets for the next session.
What Sets Me Apart
I do not use one-size-fits-all templates. My background in inclusive education allows me to adapt to neurodiverse learners, nervous speakers, and students who need extra encouragement to thrive academically.
