About Tess
My name is Tess and I am from North Carolina. I fell in love with teaching English while abroad in Italy and I taught English as a second language to people of all ages, ranging from elementary schoolers to senior citizens looking to keep their mind active and improve their English for travel. I have a degree in Foreign Languages and English from the University of Verona in Verona, Italy, where I was a private English tutor for 8.5 years. I have prepared countless students for their college exams and English Certifications and helped students see that learning English can be fun, that it is not all about memorizing grammar rules and irregular verbs. I also speak Italian and Spanish, so I know what it means to learn a new language from zero, as well as what it means to take pride in becoming more fluent and prolific in your native tongue. I always try to put my students at ease with examples of my own journey so they know they have nothing to fear with me about making mistakes. Making mistakes is how we learn, and any that they make are ones that I have made too!

I specialize in teaching grammar and teaching English to foreign students. My approach starts with defining the students goals, understanding the level they are working with from the start, and then creating a lesson plan that allows the student to reach their goal within the allowed timeframe. My students in the past have taken lessons with me to pass their Language Certification exams, apply for colleges, and to improve their overall English for personal satisfaction, work, or travel.
