About Carl
I'm from the UK and started teaching in Japan in 1991. Since then I have also taught in Taiwan, Australia, Vietnam, and back in the UK and I have gained the CELTA and DELTA Cambridge teaching qualifications. I have taught students at all levels and ages: from kindergarten to PhD students! I have taught general English, Business English, ESP (English for Specific Purposes, at company offices, golf resorts and restaurants) and English for immigration. I was an IELTS Examiner for 8 years and have taught IELTS for 13 years. I am married with a son and I love reading, swimming, walks in the forest and motorcycling!

I strongly believe that with the right teaching methodology for a student and enough support and motivation, any student can excel and achieve great things. The right method of study and lots of encouragement and support will help a student gain confidence and purpose to take their study seriously and meet their goals, which is what it is all about, of course. This involves having some fun along the way as well! I make sure students have the skills to take what we learn in class and consolidate it by making sure they can do home study that involves controlled and free practice as well as the invaluable skill of using your notebook to organise and consolidate what has been learnt. I have excellent methods to build vocabulary and collocations, to better understand and build your effective use of grammar, to make your writing skills grow quickly and make you more confident in speaking by improving pronunciation and using effective communication strategies.
