About Lisa
I have been teaching singing for over thirty years. I have taught privately and also as an instructor at the University of Florida, Utah State University and the University of Michigan. I have my doctoral degree in voice performance from the University of Michigan (1995), as well as my undergraduate and master’s degrees in voice performance from Boston University. Although my studies and many of my performances were of classical song and opera, I have always loved all styles of music. I have performed in musicals, jazz concerts, and I was in a rock band for five years where I sang and played keys. Currently I am playing guitar and piano, writing and recording popular songs, and I recently started learning to play drums.
It is extremely important for me to be patient and kind with my students. I want my students to feel supported, encouraged, and confident. Over the years I have seen that most people are much too hard on themselves, so I work to help them overcome that. I want them to develop a clear understanding of how their voices work and to use that knowledge to create emotionally sincere performances. I also believe that working on singing should be fun and even light-hearted. It is great to joke about some of the absurdities of our work and very satisfying to share laughter together.

I work with students on any style of music that interests them: musical theater, classical, jazz, blues, popular, rock, R&B, country, blue grass, etc. I teach students of all ages and singers who are at beginning or professional levels. I hold twice per year recitals for students who wish to perform in front of a live audience.
I also teach:
- Music theory and sight reading
- Performance readiness, song interpretation, stage movement and acting for singing
- Assistance with performance anxiety
- Vocal care and improvement for speaking (teachers, business professionals, etc.)
- Pronunciation and diction in English, Italian, French, German, Spanish and Latin
- Available to teach group sessions, masterclasses or online lessons

I also teach 45-minute lessons for which my fee is $45. I teach 30-minute lessons for children under 11 where my fee is $35.
