About Sarah
Hi there! I’m an experienced elementary and middle-school tutor with a background in chemistry, education, and hands-on classroom teaching. I graduated from Duke University, where I was pre-med with minors in chemistry and education, and later continued additional science coursework at Clemson — a place I’m deeply connected to through both family and community. I’ve always loved helping students understand new ideas and feel confident in their learning, which is what led me to teaching and tutoring.
During my time at Duke, I gained extensive experience in elementary and middle-school classrooms, and I also served as an undergraduate TA while conducting research under one of my professors. Those experiences gave me practice supporting learners from young students to same-age peers and explaining concepts clearly at different levels.
I’ve also worked with children in structured group settings outside the classroom, including leading lessons and activities in children’s church. These experiences strengthened my communication skills, patience, and ability to support kids with different personalities and learning needs.
After graduating, I taught first and third grade in a homeschool-style environment for families, which deepened my understanding of how children learn at different developmental stages and how to tailor instruction to each child’s needs. Since then, I’ve tutored students across multiple elementary and middle-school levels, helping them build strong foundations, grow their confidence, and feel supported in their learning.
I’ve worked on curriculum creation for elementary and middle-school learners and collaborated with college professors on course materials, which helps me teach concepts in a way that feels natural, structured, and easy to understand.
My goal is always to help students not just get through a course, but genuinely enjoy learning. I love breaking complex ideas into bite-size pieces that feel manageable and clear. I bring patience, structure, and genuine enthusiasm to every session, and I’m committed to meeting each student exactly where they are so they can grow with confidence. Let’s start the journey.
Fun fact: I was part of Duke’s dance team during college and performed at football and basketball games, so I naturally love music, movement, and celebrating students’ wins — big or small.

I help elementary and middle school students build strong foundations in math and science through clear explanations, patient guidance, and step-by-step practice. I tutor algebra readiness, general math skills, basic chemistry concepts, and overall science understanding.
A typical lesson begins with a quick check-in to see how the student is feeling about the material, followed by guided practice where I break concepts into simple, manageable steps. I tailor each session to the student’s pace and learning style, making sure they understand not just what to do, but why it works.
My approach focuses on making learning feel manageable and confidence-boosting. Students leave sessions with stronger fundamentals, better problem-solving habits, and a sense of progress they can genuinely feel.
While I’m absolutely happy to teach online, I often recommend in-person lessons for students who thrive with hands-on guidance and immediate feedback.
