About Alex
I’m a recent BSc Economics graduate from Loughborough University with a genuine enthusiasm for the subject and for helping students succeed in it. I achieved an A* in A-Level Economics before going on to study Economics at degree level, giving me a strong understanding of the subject from both an A-Level and university perspective.
Studying Economics at university has allowed me to develop a much deeper understanding of the theories and reasoning that underpin the A-Level syllabus. I therefore aim to go beyond simply teaching students what they need to remember for an exam. Where appropriate, I can explain the deeper economic intuition behind models and theories, helping students understand why economic relationships work rather than simply memorising them. I believe this deeper understanding can be particularly valuable when developing strong chains of analysis and evaluation in higher-mark essay questions.
My university experience also means I can support students who are considering studying Economics beyond A-Level. I’m happy to discuss what studying Economics at university is actually like, the transition from A-Level to degree-level Economics, the increased use of mathematics and quantitative methods, and how students can prepare themselves for that step.
During sixth form, I was Economics Subject Leader and also tutored other students, which first developed my interest in helping others understand the subject. At university, I continued supporting students as an Economics Course Representative and Peer Mentor.
As someone who has relatively recently made the progression from A-Level to university Economics myself, I understand both the pressures students face during their A-Levels and the challenges involved in taking the subject further. I aim to be approachable and patient while still challenging students to improve, creating an environment where they feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and developing their confidence.
Ultimately, my goal is to help students achieve the best grade they can while developing a genuine understanding of Economics that extends beyond simply memorising the specification.

My lessons are designed to make A-Level Economics easier to understand and, most importantly, easier to apply in exams. Every student has different strengths and weaknesses, so I tailor each session around the individual rather than following a one-size-fits-all lesson plan.
I would start by identifying the student's current level, target grade and the areas they find most challenging. From there, lessons can focus on whatever will have the greatest impact on their progress. For example, a student who understands the theory but struggles in exams may spend more time on essay planning, evaluation, chains of analysis and timed questions. Alternatively, if a student is struggling with the underlying content, we can break topics down step-by-step, use diagrams and real-world examples, and then gradually introduce exam questions once their understanding is secure.
Sessions can also be adapted around what the student is currently studying at school, upcoming tests or mocks, recent feedback from teachers, or particular areas of the specification they want to revisit. I can therefore provide both structured ongoing tuition and more targeted support before important assessments.
I recently graduated with a BSc in Economics from Loughborough University and achieved an A* in A-Level Economics myself. I have previously tutored A-Level students, served as Economics Subject Leader at sixth form and was an Economics Course Representative at university. This experience has given me a strong understanding of both the subject itself and the challenges students can face when learning it.
Lessons are typically one hour and are interactive rather than simply working through a textbook. I use a combination of explanations, diagrams, real-world economic examples, essay planning, past-paper questions and structured feedback. My aim is not just to help students memorise content, but to develop the economic reasoning and exam technique needed to turn their knowledge into marks.
My lessons are primarily aimed at A-Level Economics students of all abilities — whether you're struggling with the fundamentals, trying to move up a grade, or aiming for an A/A*.
