About Norah
Hi, I'm Norah! I am currently a first-year student at Denison University and am double majoring in psychology and educational studies. As part of my education class this year I have had the opportunity to student teach in both a middle and elementary school classroom, where I worked with general education students as well as in an intervention classroom, (a mixed-grade classroom for students with learning disabilities). Being able to learn new teaching methods for elementary and middle school E.L.A. and writing, as well as having prior experience with one-on-one tutoring has left me well-prepared and excited to help other students with their reading, writing, and literacy skills!

In my experience with one-on-one tutoring as well as creating lesson plans for students with 504 plans and IEPs in the classrooms where I have student taught, I have learned a couple of helpful techniques to help students learn and understand certain literary or grammatical concepts. One method I use frequently is the "I do, we do, you do" method. This method is particularly helpful if we are working on sentence structure, and characterization within small passages, or if we are simply learning to read prose and poetry beyond its literal meaning! With this method, I will first walk us through the topic or concept we are working on. Next, we together will answer a sample question. Finally, you will demonstrate your knowledge by trying a question, analyzing a passage, or writing a summary yourself! Another method I have found useful for writing and ELA work has been to use of graphic organizers. Graphic organizers can help us make sense of passages or to help organize our thoughts!
