About Emma
I have been privately tutoring for the last 10 years and have taught in an outstanding school, been head of the English department there for 10 years and trained 15 newly qualified teachers. I have tutored pupils for the 11+ who received offers from ALL their chosen schools, 6 GCSE students who were awarded level 9 and level 8 for their English Literature and English Language; an A level student who was awarded an A* and is now at Oxford and another who was awarded an A and is reading PPE at Warwick University. I have also spent time tutoring reluctant boys at both KS3 and 4 and have seen a change in their progress through my ability to tease out their skills by instilling confidence in their own abilities.

I am extremely passionate about Literature and seek to enthuse my tutees by engaging them with the texts through relating them to their own experiences and reference points so that they feel confident in accessing challenging content. We practise with exemplar exam papers and focus on key skills. I also teach different strategies for revising texts, comparison skills and language analysis.

Perfect! Emma took time to establish just what my son required in way of support and provided an excellent tailored program of lessons. Very helpful in boosting confidence in English and encouraging and developing his own ideas.

Perfect! Emma has been a fantastic support to both my sons who are in Key Stage 3. She has instilled confidence in my younger son and he has started to produce some excellent work at school. With my older son, who has different needs, Emma has ensured that she is stretching him and has started preparing him for his GCSEs. Emma is friendly, informative and the children enjoy their sessions with her. I can’t recommend her highly enough.
Perfect! I have two sons who have been tutored by Emma on a weekly basis, they both thoroughly enjoy their sessions with Emma both boys are reading more and their teachers have noticed a marked improvement in their schoolwork.

Struggling with English Language receiving grades 5 and 6’s during GCSE mock exams, Emma Cronshaw managed to help me receive a 9 through being a confident, ambitious and inspiring tutor. Not only has she sparked a passion for English within me but she has also allowed me to enjoy English lessons like I have never before.
Emma shows a genuine passion for English and will always try to find the best techniques suited to her students helping them unlock their potential. Emma is approachable, friendly and I cannot recommend her highly enough. As a former pupil who was struggling to pass English she managed to turn my grades around and helped me to achieve top grades. Emma’s enthusiasm for her subject is infectious and her care for her students goes above and beyond.
Emma provided in depth and detailed english tutor lessons, working at different paces to assist with different confidence levels throughout the GCSE courses. At the end of this I managed to achieve a Grade 9 in English Literature and a Grade 8 in English Langauge. Her support was unreal and made the GCSE exams mcuh easier than we’re ever imagined. Definately an amazing tutor!
