My teaching method is I use is called the gradual release model. The gradual release model is the I do (Teaching/Mini-lesson/the teacher teaches a new skill or strategy), We do (Group-work/the teacher and students together to practice the skill or strategy taught) and You do (Independent work/the students work alone practicing the skill or strategy). Usually at the end of each lesson I teach, I review the skill with the students by having them share their work called the sharing time. While one student share the other students are listening to see prepare to give that student feedback on how well they did using the skill or strategy. I approach each topic using the reading and writing workshop model. These models follow the gradual release model. Reading workshop has 3 parts the mini-lesson, independent reading time and the share.. The writing workshop has 3 parts the mini-lesson, the Writing time and the sharing time. When I tutor my students, I follow this format in a shortened verision due to time constraints and I provide support to the student if I notice and errors in their work. I like to work as a facilitator/coach to ensure that the students are learning.
