About Benedict
A Cambridge graduate with First Class Honours in English, Benedict specialises in independent school entrance preparation, guiding tutees through the ISEB Pre-Test, Common Entrance and interviews, with repeated success at Eton, Winchester and Westminster.
When tutoring English language and literature to GCSE and A- Level, Benedict boosts pupils’ confidence and clarity and deepens their understanding of set texts.
He also supports university applications and has conducted Oxbridge interview practice and UCAS personal statement seminars in schools across China, South Korea and Japan.
Benedict holds an MA with Distinction from the Royal Central School of Speech & Drama and has performed Shakespeare across the United States with a theatre troupe established under the patronage of Dame Judi Dench. He expertly guides applicants through the drama school audition process and enables students of all ages to elevate their public speaking and performance skills.

• All of Benedict’s tutees have gained admission to at least one of their top-choice schools at 7+, 8+, ISEB, 11+ London Consortium, along with Common Entrance examinations at 11+, 13+, and 16+.
• Benedict supports students towards English, mathematics, verbal and non-verbal reasoning entrance examinations, as well as interview and scholarship preparation for some of the most prestigious institutions in the UK.
• He minimises stress while maintaining productivity in the run-up to interviews, ensuring candidates avoid falling into the trap of giving formulaic and clearly predetermined responses to questions. Instead, he encourages his tutees to view the opportunity as a brand-new conversation covering topics about which they are comfortable and familiar: their favourite subjects, books, sports, and hobbies.
7 & 8+ Admissions
• Successful schools at 7+ and 8+ include UCS, KCS, WCCS, Sussex House, Wetherby Prep, and Latymer Prep.
• 7+ pupils tend to stumble over maths questions involving analogue time (given the prevalence of digital clocks) and money (given we so rarely use cash and coins in 2024). Benedict’s tutees get tangible, real-world experience of these topics, approaching these questions with total confidence.
• Benedict has enjoyed great success using word association and vocabulary games as a means of encouraging his students to deploy increasingly ambitious choices in their creative writing, setting them apart amongst the cohort taking the exams.
ISEB Pre-Test, 11+, UKiset and CAT 4 Admissions
• 6+ years tutoring independent school entrance, with multiple successes at Eton, Harrow, Westminster, Winchester, Latymer Upper, Godolphin, St Paul’s, Brighton College, Canford and Haberdashers’. Benedict’s tuition is always specific and tailored, not merely to the test but to the candidate’s own areas of strength and weakness.
• Having personally created English grammar resources for Atom Learning, the UK’s leading 11+ and ISEB Pre-Test preparation website, Benedict has a truly in-depth understanding of the specific topics and questions which crop up repeatedly in the ISEB Pre-Test.
• Benedict ensures his tutees are confident with the online format of the Pre-Test. Unlike a traditional exam paper, there is no possibility of going backwards in the ISEB, where pressing the ‘Enter’ key will immediately (and irreversibly) submit whatever the candidate has entered. As such, specific exam technique is required, and Benedict is on hand to provide this.
• The Eton List Test is known to put pupils through their paces by way of disappearing text and questions, which means the ability to read and think quickly are paramount. Benedict ensures his tutees go in with a strategy, checking subject-verb agreement, common misspellings and punctuation usage in a matter of moments. Likewise, Harrow’s in-house test can be tight on time, so Benedict works on speed and accuracy with every tutee.
Common Entrance at 13+ Admissions
