I focus on ensuring the student can understand the underlying principles of the subject and apply their understanding in answering exam questions and solving real-life problems. I have been tutoring since 2008, primarily focusing on upper-secondary students. My experience in the industrial automation field helps to provide students with various perspectives on the complex concepts in Maths and Physics.

  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

I discovered my passion for engineering at a young age, and my interest grew as I explored various scientific concepts. Additionally, I found joy in teaching my peers physics and mathematics, which led me to develop an interest in private tutoring.
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students.

I have been teaching physics and mathematics for some time now. In my classes, I focus on engaging students by discussing interesting topics and connecting them to real-life situations. My goal is to ignite curiosity and show students that these subjects are not just theoretical - they have practical applications all around us.
  • Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

My role model is a science teacher from my primary school who encouraged me to be curious and ask questions. She saw my curiosity as a point to elevate my learning capacity and ever since I have enjoyed learning and still my curiosity is burning bright. And I feel the urge to share the flame with other students.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

I think a good tutor is the one who prepares the students to have develop their skills instead of getting them to better in specific topics. I would prefer them to know how to fish rather than be handed a fish when they are hungry. I strongly believe in preparing the students to be ready for the next level.
  • Is there a valuable anecdote you can share related to your subject or your days at school?

From my school years, I learnt faster by sharing and helping my peers for Maths and Physics. The more I spent helping them, the easier the subject became. So, I try to use this by getting the students to teach me solve a problem for them to get a deeper understanding of the principles.
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or are still facing in your subject?

The difficulty I face in teaching Math and Physics is to teach the intuition behind the solution to a problem. As I have spent many years solving those problems, sometimes it will be hard to teach that intuition to students. I overcome this by giving the students the same problem in different ways. It is like an optical illusion: once you see it, you can't unsee it.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general, an element of the subject, or something completely different?

I have an interest in Astronomy as I have always wondered what is out there in space. I have a 900mm telescope that easily shows the rings of the Saturn, the moons of the Jupiter and, on a clear night, some of the nebulas!
  • What makes you a Superprof?

I enjoy teaching Maths and Physics with a goal in mind - I want my students to enjoy these subjects as much as I did when I was young. I want them to be able to see the world governed by the laws of physics and mathematics and not only focus on the exams. This is what makes me a Superprof.
