About Evan

Hello! My name is Evan, and I am a recent Environmental Engineering graduate from Georgia Tech. I specialize in tutoring Algebra, Precalculus, AP Calculus, Calculus I, and Calculus II.

My teaching approach focuses on helping students understand concepts rather than simply memorizing formulas. I break problems down into manageable steps, encourage questions, and adapt lessons to each student's learning style. My goal is to help students improve their grades while building confidence and independent problem-solving skills.

As a recent engineering graduate, I have extensive experience applying mathematics to real-world problems and understand the challenges students face in these courses. Whether you're preparing for an exam, working through homework, or trying to strengthen your foundation in math, I'm here to help.

A little about me outside of academics: I have a Golden Retriever–German Shepherd puppy who keeps me busy and reminds me daily that patience is an important teaching skill!

I look forward to helping you achieve your academic goals.

My approach to tutoring is focused on helping students truly understand the "why" behind mathematical concepts, not just memorizing formulas or procedures. As an Environmental Engineering graduate from Georgia Tech, I have used calculus extensively in real-world engineering applications and understand how foundational math concepts connect to more advanced topics.

Teaching Method and Techniques

I believe students learn best when they actively work through problems rather than simply watching someone else solve them. During sessions, I break down complex concepts into manageable steps, encourage questions, and guide students toward solutions while building confidence and independent problem-solving skills.

I focus on:

Identifying gaps in foundational knowledge
Explaining concepts in multiple ways until they click
Working through examples together
Teaching problem-solving strategies that apply to new situations
Building confidence and reducing math anxiety

A Typical Lesson

A typical session begins with reviewing any questions or challenges the student has encountered. We then work through current coursework, homework problems, or targeted practice questions. As we solve problems, I explain both the mechanics and reasoning behind each step. We finish by reviewing key concepts and identifying areas for continued practice.

What Sets Me Apart

As a recent Georgia Tech engineering graduate, I have experience applying calculus and advanced mathematics to real engineering problems, not just classroom exercises. Because I completed these courses relatively recently, I understand the challenges students face and can explain concepts in a relatable and practical way.

My goal is not only to help students succeed on their next exam but also to develop the skills and confidence needed to tackle future math courses independently.

Who My Lessons Are For

I work with:

High school students taking Algebra, Precalculus, or AP Calculus
College students enrolled in Calculus I and Calculus II
Engineering and science majors needing support with mathematics coursework
Students who want to improve grades, prepare for exams, or strengthen their mathematical foundations

Lessons can be tailored to each student's goals, learning style, and course requirements.
