About Tawana

I want to teach because I enjoy helping others understand things that initially feel difficult or confusing. In subjects like maths and science, I’ve found that many students struggle not because they lack ability, but because the concepts haven’t been explained in a clear or structured way that fits how they think. Being able to break down those barriers and help someone reach that “it makes sense now” moment is very rewarding.
As an engineering student, I’m constantly using maths and science in a practical, problem-solving way, and that has strengthened my own understanding of the fundamentals. Tutoring gives me the opportunity to reinforce that knowledge while also sharing it in a way that is simple and accessible for GCSE and younger students. Explaining topics to others also helps me deepen my own understanding, since it forces me to think carefully about the most logical and intuitive way to present ideas.
Overall, I want to teach because I enjoy the process of making complex ideas feel straightforward, and I find it satisfying to help students build confidence and improve their performance over time.

As a first-year engineering student, my tutoring approach is focused on building strong foundations in maths and science for GCSE and younger students. I aim to explain topics in a clear, simple, and structured way, making sure students fully understand the core ideas before moving on to harder questions.

My teaching style is based on breaking down problems step by step. I start by identifying what the student already understands, then explain the topic using straightforward language and worked examples. I encourage students to actively take part in solving questions rather than just watching me work through them, so they gain confidence in applying methods themselves. I also use repetition and gradual progression in difficulty to help reinforce key concepts.

A typical lesson would last around 45 to 60 minutes. This gives enough time to explain a topic, go through examples together, and then let the student try questions independently with guidance where needed. For more focused revision or exam preparation, shorter or slightly longer sessions can be arranged depending on the student’s needs.

Although I am at the beginning of my university studies in engineering, I have a strong understanding of GCSE-level maths and science concepts and the methods required to succeed in exams. My engineering background also helps me explain mathematical and physical ideas in a logical and practical way, which can make them easier to understand.

My tutoring is aimed at GCSE students and younger learners who need support in maths and science, whether that’s catching up with classwork, building confidence, or improving exam performance. I adapt my explanations to the student’s level, ensuring that everything is accessible, clear, and easy to follow.
