I tutor English, History, Drama (Theory & Performance), Film Studies and English as a Foreign Language.

I lоve tutoring: I enjoy building the confidence of my students, providing them with useful transferrable tools with which to approach their textual analysis and essay writing, and it is such a pleasure to see students grow their skills, independent thinking and passion for the subjects I teach. As а teаcher, I wаs awarded a commendation from the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences for my undergraduate Modern European History teaching in 2012.

I hоld an Bachelor of Advanced Arts (First Class Honours) from the University of Sydney, a CELTA English Language Teaching qualification from the University of Cambridge, and a Diploma of Classical Acting from London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art.

I am currently working as a freelance writer and filmmaker, with my writing appearing in various Arts & Humanities publications including the Random House Anthology `Poems by Young Australians`. As a filmmaker, my work has screened at festivals internationally, and has garnered awards including `Best Documentary Film` at the Canberra and Blue Mountains film festivals for my documentary film collaboration `Wild Things`, and an Honourable Mention for `vision and contribution to cinema` at the Experimental Forum film festival for my short fiction film `Portrait`.

STUDENT TESTIMONIALS (Selected):

Modern European History, University of Sydney

"Her tutorials made me look at the construction of history in a whole new
way and opened up new ideas about the role of history to me. Her
guidance to students is outstanding and her attention to detail is
incredible. Her knowledge of history is enviable and her involvement with
the unit of study made love history."

English as a Foreign Language, Melbourne Training Associates

"I was pleased to have Melissa-Kelly as a teacher.

It was totally amazing to be in her class, to feel the super high-energy and
to be inspired by her brilliant work. The knowledge she shares is an eye
opener for me. She has great experience, she is very passionate about
her work and she knows how to create a pleasant and stimulating
atmosphere with good vibe for learning. She always explains simply how
to do things.

I haven`t just improved my technical English, but I have also massively
improved the pronunciation and the knowledge of the English grammar.
We speak a lot about a wide variety of subjects, which is more interesting.

She is so upbeat you would feel ashamed of yourself if you didn´t go and
work harder with a big smile, like her. It`s infectious. She genuine care for
others is beyond this world.

I really feel proud, happy and honoured to know her, I couldn´t
recommend her enough."

"It was a pleasure to learn English from Melissa-Kelly in Australia. Even I
couldn’t speak English fluently, and also many students felt shy to speak
in class, she always encouraged students to try express more and do
some practice but she patiently helped us to figure out what we
confused.

I think the most important characteristic of a teacher is passion, and she
has enthusiasm for her work.

That’s why I believe Melissa-Kelly is an outstanding teacher. I’m happy I
was her student in Melbourne, that was a great learning experience of my
life."
